According to recent research and scientific reports, it is now thought that the bacteria that resides in our intestines may actually strongly impact various aspects of our health.

Some scientific researchers, medical doctors and other healthcare professionals have even stated that many chronic diseases, illness and and medical conditions may have their origins in the status of the gut - in other words, an impaired digestive system contributes or leads to a variety of chronic health problems.

It is believed that an impaired digestive system is often the result of an imbalance in the gut bacteria - "bad" (or pathogenic) bacteria outnumbering the "good" (or beneficial) bacteria.

To maintain a healthy gut bacteria balance, many healthcare professionals now recommend eating a diet rich in probiotic and prebiotic foods and probiotic supplementation.

Probiotic and prebiotic foods are thought to nurture and even heal the digestive system.

This infographic entitled "Probiotics and Good Gut Health" sheds some light on the nature of bacteria and where they are found on the body as well as probiotics and the types of medical issues that probiotics can help to treat.

The infographic also gives some specific data on Clostridium Difficile (C. Diff), a particularly aggressive and difficult to treat superbug that is quickly becoming one of our most urgent bacterial threats.
